Unit Plan Grade K - Hidden Voices: ELA Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in U.S. History
- Grade Level K-2nd Grade
Introduction
In this Grade K Mini Unit, Families, Traditions, and Symbols, students explore three texts: Amy Wu and The Perfect Bao, Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon, and Amy Wu and the Warm Welcome, all by Kat Zhang, in which the main character learns that familial relationships are key to sharing and celebrating the culture. Students also explore the rich diversity of AAPI traditions and symbols.
The Hidden Voices project has evolved to encompass a multidisciplinary approach so that the contributions and accomplishments of underrepresented groups are incorporated across all subjects and students’ learning experiences. These new resources align to the chancellor’s priorities and commitment to providing culturally responsive instructional materials and practices to better represent New York City’s rich ethnic and cultural diversity.
