Introduction

In this Grade 3 Mini Unit, The Power of a Story, through the reading of the first-person texts A Different Pond by Bao Phi and Watercress by Andra Wang, students are introduced to the experiences and culture of the authors while exploring the power of storytelling within the AAPI community, specifically focusing on how stories are used to educate, inspire, and empower.
The Hidden Voices project has evolved to encompass a multidisciplinary approach so that the contributions and accomplishments of underrepresented groups are incorporated across all subjects and students’ learning experiences. These new resources align to the chancellor’s priorities and commitment to providing culturally responsive instructional materials and practices to better represent New York City’s rich ethnic and cultural diversity.
